About Us

“… all of us who have been touched by schizophrenia must work harder; … we all must advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves.  Only then will services improve.” E. Fuller Torrey, ‘Surviving Schizophrenia’, 2006

We are a new charity run by and for people who have family or friends who suffer from psychosis.  Our mission is to create a fellowship of people who share the same experience, to help each other and to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves.  This website aspires to be an interactive online community where you can logon, share your stories, ask for advice and feel heard and supported, so please register on the registration page.

Terminology

Why do we use the word ‘psychosis’ rather than the more commonly used schizophrenia’?  Psychosis is a transient state of being; schizophrenia implies a lifelong sentence of illness plus medication.

Support

We want to offer fellowship and support to anyone who loves someone in psychosis.  To do this we hold social events, support groups and workshops and create support networks such as this website.  We are here to create a voice for all those who love someone in psychosis. If you have any other ideas or would like to get involved then please e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Integrated and Holistic Approaches

We believe that an integrated approach to the treatment of psychosis is possible and effective. Once sufferers have undergone psychiatric treatment they do not necessarily need to remain on medication alone in the after-care programme.

Just as 80% of cancer sufferers find alternative therapies helpful in the recovery stage after conventional treatment, so we believe alternative therapies involving an holistic approach can prove beneficial in the after-care program of the treatment of severe mental illnesses such as psychosis and schizophrenia.

Useful Links

We would like to compile a database, with references, of practitioners interested in alternative approaches to after-care.  Please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to be included in this database.

What we don’t do

Loving Someone in Psychosis does not offer any information on psychiatric treatments, drugs, sectioning or mental health procedures.

However there are some fantastic charities that offer this kind of information.  Useful Links
